My Journey as an Artist
From Childhood Sketches to Abstract Canvases
Ever since I was a little girl, art has been a part of my life. I remember sitting by the window, eagerly waiting for my mom to come home with a fresh set of markers. My cousin, who was a talented painter, often inspired me—I would sneak into his studio, watch him paint, and, when he wasn’t looking, experiment with his paints myself. I ruined more canvases and paints than I can count, but I loved every moment of it.
Even as I grew up, my passion for creating never faded. When I moved to the United States, I decided to pursue a career in design and studied to become an interior designer. Working with clients and seeing the spaces we transformed made me realize something: I love how colors, without any defined form, can interact to create a mood—whether soft pastels, rich tones, or silky textures. Colors dictate everything, even if the subject isn’t realistic. That’s what drew me to abstract art: it allows everyone to see and interpret it in their own unique way.
Through my work as a designer, I also learned that people have very different tastes in art. Some love flowers, others animals, objects, or landscapes. Finding the perfect artwork for someone isn’t always easy. Abstract art, however, is the perfect way to add that pop of color or accent a room in a way that enhances the design flow while leaving space for personal interpretation and emotion.
One day, we had a piece of art in the showroom that nobody seemed to like when we first purchased it. My coworkers asked me if I could ‘fix’ it, and I was excited to try. I took it home and, honestly, I got so emotional that I ended up completely repainting it in my own style. By the end of the day, I brought it back and left it by the showroom entry on the floor. The next morning, a client came in, saw the painting, and immediately fell in love. She decided to hang it in her entryway, and when I arrived at work, everyone was telling me how impressed she was and that she had purchased my art right away. That moment was a true turning point—I couldn’t believe that my art could touch someone else’s life in such a meaningful way.
Soon after, many of my colleagues and clients who visited our showroom began purchasing my paintings. At first, I thought they were joking—surely, my work couldn’t really appeal to anyone else! But they were serious. They chose my pieces for special spots in their homes, places where they could admire them every day. Visiting my colleagues’ homes and seeing my paintings displayed proudly on their walls filled me with pride, joy, and a deep sense of honor. Knowing that people truly connected with my creations inspired me to keep painting even more.
In one special case, I created multiple paintings for a medical office to brighten the spaces where doctors and staff work. It was incredibly fulfilling to know that my art could create a positive, uplifting atmosphere for people during their busy, sometimes stressful days.
Today, my art is an extension of my soul and my design philosophy. I created ArtByAyka.com to share my paintings with the world and to offer the possibility of creating something unique for your space. Whether you are looking for a piece to complement a specific room or simply want to experience the energy of abstract art, my work can be tailored just for you. I can create something truly unique that reflects your personality as I perceive it. From a young age, I’ve been highly intuitive with people, and working as a designer has further honed this ability to understand the energy and essence of those around me. This intuition allows me to translate the personality, energy, and essence I sense into my art, creating pieces that are not just beautiful, but a reflection of who you are.
Art and design are inseparable for me—they are both about creating beauty, evoking emotion, and making spaces feel alive. I invite you to explore my portfolio and see how my paintings can bring a special touch to your home or office.
